HI-EMA NEWS RELEASE: Testing of new siren on Oahu – April 19, 2017
Posted on Apr 17, 2017 in Latest Department NewsHONOLULU — The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (Hawaii-EMA), together with the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management will conduct siren testing at the following location and time.
Wednesday, April 19, 2017 (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)
- Otake Camp, Waialua
The new Otake Camp siren is part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project. Residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, emergency management officials and technicians will check that installation work on this siren has been completed properly.

Hawaii-EMA encourages the public to make use of other supplemental methods of warning including, but not limited to, the City & County of Honolulu’s mass text notification system, Nixle, and NOAA Weather Radio.
