Drug overdose is the leading mechanism of injury-related deaths for Hawaiʻi residents, and currently accounts for 23 percent of all fatal injuries, surpassing motor vehicle-related deaths. State agencies are collaborating to address this issue. This effort is being led by the Hawaiʻi Department of Heath’s Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention Division and the Emergency Medical Services Injury Prevention System Branch. Other agency partners include the Attorney General’s office, the Department of Human Services Med-QUEST Division, and the Department of Public Safety.
