ATG NEWS RELEASE: State wins airport permit dispute

HONOLULU – Attorney General Doug Chin announced today that state circuit court Judge Jeffrey P. Crabtree ruled in favor of the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) and against helicopter operator Novictor Aviation, LLC (Novictor) in a dispute regarding Novictor’s 30-day permit at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.
Novictor had been a permittee under a temporary, revocable 30-day permit at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. On July 3, 2017, Novictor asked the court to issue a preliminary injunction to prevent the State from terminating Novictor’s permit until another “suitable” location was determined.
Attorney General Chin said, “The State acted properly and followed all applicable laws and processes in terminating the permit. HDOT is committed to treating all airport users fairly. HDOT will continue discussing alternative locations with Novictor to avoid any business interruption for passengers.”
The State was represented internally by Deputy Attorneys General John Price, Marjorie Lau, and Julia Verbrugge. Novictor was represented by the Honolulu law firm Cades Schutte.
