Wash-down to be closed about two months
HONOLULU — The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation will begin work starting October 19, to remove deteriorated asphalt and repave areas at the Wai‘anae Small Boat Harbor launch ramp and boat wash-down area. The total project scope of work includes repaving the existing asphalt roadways and parking areas, new striping, and at the boat launch ramp and wash-down areas, asphalt will be replaced with more durable concrete. Repaving of the roadway and parking areas has already been completed. Project contractor is Road Builders Corp. and cost is $1.5 million.
Concrete paving will take place at the top of the boat launch ramp. One half will be paved between October 19 to November 3, meanwhile leaving the other side open for continued use by boaters. After concrete is poured on one side, it will need to remain closed while it hardens and cures for two weeks. Then the other side of the launch ramp will be paved between November 16 to December 4. Then the process can be repeated on the other side of the ramp.
Concrete paving is also planned for the boat wash down area along the access road to the harbor between October 23, and finishing by December 29, 2017. This area will need to be completely closed and unavailable for use by boaters to wash their boats during this period. No alternative boat wash-down facilities will be provided while this area is closed.
While the harbor will remain open, harbor users and boaters are urged to use caution and heed signs posted at both areas as they are closed. Once work begins on the concrete slab along the boat ramp, the parking stalls along the middle area will not be available. Traffic flow will be allowed through the harbor during the entire duration of the construction.
