WHAT: Groundbreaking ceremony for new Hawai‘i State Hospital
patient building.
Kahu Wendell Silva will preside over a traditional Hawaiian blessing
and groundbreaking ceremony for a new four-story, 144-bed, secure
forensic psychiatric facility. The new 170,000 square foot facility will
incorporate clinical best practices and create a modern therapeutic
environment. It will include patient care units, a comprehensive
rehabilitation mall, outdoor courtyards, admissions and transfer
suites, building support functions, and offices spaces within a
secured area.
In Jan. 2018, the state Department of Accounting and General
Services (DAGS) awarded a $140 million contract to a design-build
team led by Hensel Phelps, G70 and KMD to design and construct the
Hawai‘i State Hospital’s new facility.
