David Y. Ige

HONOLULU — As a salute of honor and respect for the 12 U.S. Marines who went missing after their two CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters impacted the water off the coast of Oahu’s Waimea Bay along the North Shore the evening of January 14, Gov. David Y. Ige has ordered the flags of the United States and State of Hawai‘i be flown at half-staff. For five days, flags will be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawai‘i National Guard, from sunrise on Friday, January 22, to sunset on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016.

The 12 U.S. Marines are:

Maj. Shawn M. Campbell, 41, College Station, Texas.

Capt. Brian T. Kennedy, 31, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Capt. Kevin T. Roche, 30, St. Louis, Missouri.

Capt. Steven R. Torbert, 29, Florence, Alabama.

Sgt. Dillon J. Semolina, 24, Chaska, Minnesota.

Sgt. Adam C. Schoeller, 25, Gardners, Pennsylvania.

Sgt. Jeffrey A. Sempler, 22, Woodruff, South Carolina.

Sgt. William J. Turner, 25, Florala, Alabama.

Cpl. Matthew R. Drown, 23, Spring, Texas.

Cpl. Thomas J. Jardas, 22, Fort Myers, Florida.

Cpl. Christopher J. Orlando, 23, Hingham, Massachusetts.

Lance Cpl. Ty L. Hart, 21, Aumsville, Oregon.

These 12 brave U.S. Marines paid the ultimate price in protecting our freedom of democracy. We mourn their loss and honor their sacrifice and commitment to serving our great state and nation, as our national and state symbols fly at half-staff in their memory. — Never forgotten.
