DLNR NEWS RELEASE: Veteran Forestry and Wildlife Manager Appointed to Division’s Top Job

(HONOLULU) – The Oahu Branch Chief for the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) has been promoted to become DOFAW Administrator. David Smith is a veteran state wildlife biologist and forestry and wildlife manager with 28 years of experience.
DLNR Chair Suzanne Case said, “We are delighted that one of DLNR’s largest divisions has someone so experienced and respected to lead it. Dave has played lead roles in stewardship of state forest reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, game management area, public hunting areas and offshore-island seabirds sanctuaries.”
His experience also includes field work, personnel, budget legislative, partner and community relations management. He has supervised DOFAW activities at the Kure Atoll State Wildlife Sanctuary in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and has also supervised forestry, wildlife, ecosystems, trails and access teams.
Case added, “Dave’s passion and enthusiasm for DLNR’s mission combined with his collaborative, problem-solving style will benefit all of Hawaii on a broader level. Smith starts in his new position on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016.
