DLNR NEWS RELEASE: Closure of DHHL Lands at Kipuka ‘Ainahou and Portions of Mauna Kea Forest Reserve

HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) has closed those portions of land within Kipuka ‘Ainahou and Mauna Kea Forest Reserve and public hunting areas, situated at Humu‘ula, Hawai‘i and belonging to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL).

The license agreement allowing DLNR to manage these lands for public hunting and wildlife management purposes has expired and has not been renewed.  The lands have been closed to public access as of March 1, 2016 and will remain closed until further notice. The Pu’u O’o trail within this area, that is managed by DLNR’s Na Ala Hele trails and access program, remains open until further notice.
