HDOT NEWS RELEASE: Emergency training exercise scheduled for Hilo International Airport

Posted on Oct 7, 2016 in Latest Department News

HILO – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is notifying the public that Hilo International Airport and Hawaii County Emergency responders will participate in an exercise on October 17, 2016. The exercise is designed to validate and improve response to a crisis situation. The exercise will involve a fuel vehicle incident. Emergency responders will simulate a vehicle accident scene and may treat volunteers who are pretending to be victims. The accident is not real; however, the response will be as realistic as possible.

Hilo Airport Fire Department, airport maintenance, airport security, area hospitals, law enforcement, fire and emergency teams, government officials and agencies, and private-sector partners will participate.

The areas where the exercise will take place will be clearly marked, but we want to make sure all area residents are aware of the exercise in advance. We ask for your patience and support if the exercise disrupts your daily routine. The exercise will not have an operational impact on the daily flight schedules.

We thank all airport tenants and area residents for their support of this important exercise.
