DLNR MEDIA ADVISORY: Annual release and celebration of fledgling A’o (Shearwaters)
Posted on Oct 21, 2016 in Latest Department News
What: You are invited to attend the 2016 E Ho’opomaika Ia Na Manu ‘A’o organized by the Kaua‘i Endangered Seabird Recovery Project with the Save Our Shearwaters Program. This is an annual release and celebration of the fledgling ‘A’o. The releases are, of course, dependent upon the birds! If there are no birds to release, the event will be rescheduled.
When: Tuesday, October 25, 2016, starting at 12:30 p.m.
The blessing will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the arrival of the children. The release portion will begin at approximately 12:50 p.m., and the event will be finished by 1p.m.
Where: In Wailua at Lydgate Park, Kamalani Kai Bridge Area (see attached map)
Who: Approximately 25 children from Island School will be attending. This is an opportunity for area fourth-graders to learn about seabirds and their connection to Hawaiian culture.
Media that are planning to attend are asked to advise DLNR the day before if you’re coming and provide a phone number where we can reach you that morning if we have to reschedule.
(Please note that the event is not open to the public.)
