DLNR MEDIA ADVISORY: Hawai’i Interagency Climate Adaptation Committee Begins Work

Posted on Jun 5, 2015 in Latest Department News, Newsroom, Office of the Governor Press Releases

Climate change has been declared by the Hawaii State Legislature as one of the most critical challenges of this century. It poses both urgent and long-term threats to the State’s economy, sustainability, security, and way of life. In 2014 the legislature passed Act 83 which directs the adoption of a statewide climate adaptation report by the end of 2017. It also created the Interagency Climate Adaptation Committee (ICAC) charged with developing the statewide Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Report (SLR Report). The committee, made up of more than a dozen state and county representatives, met for this first time this week.
