DLNR NEWS RELEASE: Comprehensive statewide coral reef management plan to begin

Posted on Nov 13, 2015 in Latest Department News, Newsroom, Office of the Governor Press Releases

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is announcing the start of a comprehensive coral reef management planning process. This is the result of mass coral bleaching over the past two years. The plan will identify steps necessary to best ensure the state’s coral reefs are as healthy and resilient as possible to maximize the chances of recovery. Additionally DLNR will discuss a recent request by the State Office of Environmental Quality Control (OEQC) to consider a temporary moratorium on commercial aquarium fish extraction as a response to the significant coral bleaching event.
