Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Former State Rep. Alvin T. Amaral

HONOLULU — As a mark of respect for the late former state Rep. Alvin T. Amaral, Gov. David Ige has ordered that the flags of the United States and State of Hawaii shall be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawaii National Guard, from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, the day of his memorial service.

“A pillar in the Maui community, Alvin Amaral’s dedication the people of Hawaii will be missed,” said Gov. Ige. “We send our heartfelt condolences out to the Amaral family and his many friends.”

Born in Puunene, Maui, Rep. Amaral, 86, served in the Hawaii State House of Representatives from 1973 to 1976 and the Maui County Council from 1977 to 1978. A former real estate agent and land developer, he was a delegate to the 1968 Hawaii State Constitutional Convention and the 1976 Republican National Convention.
