HDOT NEWS RELEASE: Honolulu International Airport runway to temporarily close for maintenance
Posted on Dec 11, 2015 in Latest Department News, Newsroom, Office of the Governor Press ReleasesHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) will temporarily close Runway 8R-26L (a.k.a. the Reef Runway) for airfield maintenance work at the Honolulu International Airport for three nights next week. During the closure, flights will be redirected to other operational runways which will alter the flight paths. This may increase air traffic noise over the Kalihi and Downtown Honolulu communities during the closure hours.
Construction will occur Monday night, Dec. 14, through Tuesday morning, Dec. 15, and Wednesday night, Dec. 16, through Friday morning, Dec. 18, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., nightly. Construction is weather permitting.
The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the condition of the Honolulu International Airport’s runways.
