HDOT NEWS RELEASE: OAHU LANE CLOSURES FOR THE WEEK OF DEC. 26 – JAN. 1, 2021

PLEASE NOTE:

Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.
All projects are weather permitting.

There will be no holiday lane closure exception due to continued low traffic volumes from COVID-19.

Special use lanes, including the Zipperlane, will resume operations on Jan. 4.

 

— H-1 FREEWAY —

1) HONOLULU

Single right lane closure on the Vineyard onramp from the H-1 eastbound Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for electrical and fiber work to support the freeway management system. The ramp will remain open.

2) KAIMUKI

Closure of the right lane on the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the Kapiolani Interchange and Ainakoa Avenue Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for guardrail and shoulder improvements. The speed limit in this area is reduced to 40 mph during work hours.

3) KAIMUKI (NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the three leftmost lanes of the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the Koko Head Avenue overpass and the Waialae Interchange Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for pavement preservation treatment.

Westbound closure includes closures of the H-1 onramps from 5th Avenue and 11th Avenue.

— H-201 MOANALUA FREEWAY —

1) MOANALUA TO HALAWA (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Two lane closures on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway in the westbound direction between the Fort Shafter/Ahua Street offramp (Exit 4) and Stadium/Halawa/Camp Smith offramp (Exit 1E) on Sunday, Dec. 27, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for pavement marking work.

2) MOANALUA/ALIAMANU

Roving single lane closure on Moanalua Freeway (Route 78) in either direction between Aliamanu Drive/Ala Kapuna Street and Ala Napunani Street on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for sign replacements.

— H-3 FREEWAY —

1) HALAWA TO KANEOHE

Roving single lane closure on the H-3 Freeway in both directions between the Halawa and Halekou interchanges on Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for litter removal.

2) KANEOHE

Closure of the right lane on the H-3 Freeway in both directions between the Mokapu Saddle Road underpass and the vicinity of Kapaa Quarry Place on Monday, Dec. 28, from Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for storm drain cleaning and CCTV inspection.

3) KANEOHE

Shoulder closure on the Kaneohe bound H-3 Freeway in the vicinity of the quarry at Mile Marker 11.5 on Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for stormwater system maintenance.

4) KANEOHE

Shoulder closure on the Halawa bound H-3 Freeway in the vicinity of the Halekou interchange on Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for stormwater system maintenance.

— FARRINGTON HIGHWAY (ROUTES 93/930) —

1) KAPOLEI

Roving single lane closure on Farrington Highway (Route 93) in both directions between Kalaeloa Boulevard and the H-1 Freeway on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for pothole repairs.

2) MAKAHA TO KAENA POINT

Roving shoulder closure on Farrington Highway (Route 93) between Kili Drive and Satellite Tracking Station Road on Monday, Dec. 28, through Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for striping and rumble strip installation.

3) MOKULEIA

Roving single lane closure on Farrington Highway (Route 93) in both directions between Dillingham Airfield and Kaukonahua Road on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for litter removal and sand barrel maintenance.

4) WAIANAE
The Farrington Highway (Route 93) contraflow at Maipalaoa will remain in the two eastbound, one westbound lane setup through Jan. 3. There is no scheduled work on the Maipalaoa Bridge Replacement project for the week of Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.

— FARRINGTON HIGHWAY (ROUTES 99/7101) —

1) PEARL CITY

Right lane closure on Farrington Highway in the westbound direction between Waiawa Road and Kamehameha Highway on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for The Rail.

2) WAIPAHU

Lanes will be closed as needed on Farrington Highway (Route 7101) in both directions between Fort Weaver Road and the H-1 Freeway Overpass (near Leeward Community College), on Sunday, Dec. 27, through Thursday, Dec. 31, over a 24-hour period, for The Rail.

— KAHEKILI HIGHWAY (ROUTES 83) —

Roving single lane closure on Kahekili Highway (Route 83) in both directions between Kamehameha Highway and Likelike Highway on Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for tree trimming and litter removal.

— KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 72) —

1) KAILUA TO MAKAPUU

Roving single lane closure on Kalanianaole Highway (Route 72) in both directions between Kailua Road and the Makapuu Lighthouse on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for tree trimming and litter removal.

— KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY (ROUTES 80/83/99) —

1) HALEIWA TO WAIPAHU
Roving single lane closure on Kamehameha Highway (Route 99) in both directions between Weed Circle and Waipahu Street on Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for litter removal.

2) HAUULA TO KAHALUU

Roving single lane closure on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) in both directions between Imua Place and Waiahole Valley Road on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of raised markings.

3) KALIHI (24/7 CLOSURE)

Kamehameha Highway between Middle Street and Laumaka Street will be reduced to one westbound and one eastbound lane 24-hours a day, seven days a week, for The Rail. Other adjustments to the area include:

  • No left turns from Kamehameha Highway will be allowed.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.
  • Driveway and Business access will be maintained.
  • The H-1 eastbound off-ramp to Dillingham Blvd. will be reduced to one lane. Middle Street southbound left turn reduced to single turn lane.
  • The sidewalk on the makai side of Dillingham Boulevard between Puuhale Road and Mokauea Street will be closed 24/7 with pedestrians rerouted to the mauka sidewalk.

4) KANEOHE
Roving right lane closure on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) in both directions between Kaneohe Bay Drive and the Pali Highway on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for litter removal, tree trimming and swale cleaning.

5) LAIE
Roving single lane closure on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) in both directions between Wahinepee Street and Pakelo Place on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., for walkway repair.

6) PEARL CITY

Lanes shifted on Kamehameha Highway (Route 99) in the eastbound direction between Kuala Street and Waihona Street on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for The Rail.

— NIMITZ HIGHWAY (ROUTE 92) —

1) HONOLULU

Closure of up to two lanes on Nimitz Highway (Route 92) in both directions between Richards Street and Awa Street on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for The Rail project. Sidewalks and crosswalks in the work zone may also be closed.

Closure of northbound lanes on Halawa Heights Road between Halawa Drive and Kealaluina Drive/Mikioi Place on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for concrete pour and retaining wall repairs. Traffic in both directions will be maintained through contraflow in the southbound lanes.

— PUULOA ROAD —

Right lane closure on Puuloa Road in the southbound direction in the vicinity of the H-201 Freeway on Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for fence repairs.

— ALA AUANA STREET —

1) HONOLULU (NIGHT WORK)

Lane closures and detours possible on Ala Auana Street between Rodgers Boulevard and Ala Onaona Street through Thursday morning, Dec. 31, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., for The Rail project. Work will take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. without lane closures.
