HDOT NEWS RELEASE: Zipperlane closed and barriers properly stored

Posted on Nov 23, 2015 in Latest Department News, Newsroom, Office of the Governor Press Releases

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is updating the public that the Zipperlane was fully closed as of 12:45 pm. The barriers are properly stored and there is no impact to any lanes along the H-1 Freeway.

The Zipmobile experienced mechanical problems after partially closing the barriers this morning.  The function that controls the vehicle’s speed malfunctioned while moving the barriers to close the lane. The machine is currently back at Zip Hale. Mechanics are performing a damage assessment and will perform the necessary repairs.

The second Zipmobile was immediately deployed and was able to fully close the barriers before the peak evening commute. The Ziplane will reopen Tuesday morning at its normal hour of 5:00 am.

HDOT continues to encourage the public to check the GoAkamai.org website and mobile apps for up to the minute traffic conditions and view pictures from over 200 traffic cameras. Please obey all traffic laws and check traffic conditions before getting behind the wheel of your vehicle.

With the wet weather the roadways can be slick. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and allow extra time to reach your destination safely. Mahalo for your patience.
