HI-EMA NEWS RELEASE: Siren testing on Kauai September 22-24

HONOLULU — Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), formerly known as State Civil Defense, together with Kauai County Civil Defense Agency will conduct siren testing from Tuesday, Sept. 22 through Thursday, Sept. 24 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at:

·         Wailua Houselots

·         Wailua Golf Course

·         Hanamaulu Beach Park

·         Puhi

·         Koloa Town

·         Poipu Beach Park

·         Halewili Road

·         Kalawai Park

·         Kekaha Chinese Cemetery

 

Residents nearby may hear the siren sound for six to eight times during 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, technicians will check that installation work on this siren has been completed properly.

Residents may call HI-EMA at (808) 733-4300 if they have any questions or concerns regarding modernization of the Statewide Outdoor Siren Warning System. Contact Kauai Civil Defense at (808) 241-1800 to report routine siren operational issues.

HI-EMA encourages the public to make use of other methods of warning including, but not limited to, text notification systems and NOAA Weather Radio. Additionally, County of Kauai encourages subscription to its Blackboard Connect® emergency notification system, which can be done online at https://bit.ly/1GeEsDo.
