HI-EMA NEWS RELEASE: Siren testing on Oahu
Posted on Dec 18, 2015 in Latest Department News, Newsroom, Office of the Governor Press ReleasesHONOLULU — Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), formerly known as State Civil Defense, together with the City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management will conduct siren testing on Tuesday, December 22, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the following location:
- Waiahole Beach Park
Residents nearby may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-second to one-minute intervals during the identified timeframe. Testing will include short blasts known as “burps.” During the tests, emergency management officials and technicians will check that installation work on this siren has been completed properly.

HI-EMA encourages the public to make use of other supplemental methods of warning including, but not limited to, the City & County of Honolulu’s mass text notification system, Nixle, and NOAA Weather Radio.
