DOT NEWS RELEASE: Honolulu International Airport to Close Runways for Airfield Maintenance

Posted on Jan 21, 2016 in Latest Department News, Newsroom, Office of the Governor Press Releases

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) will temporarily close Runway 4R-22L for maintenance work at Honolulu International Airport for two nights this week. In addition, Runway 8R/26L (Reef Runway) will be closed one night next week. During these closures, flights will be redirected to other operational runways which will alter the flight paths. This may increase air traffic noise over the Ewa Plains and Downtown Honolulu communities during the closure hours.

Runway 4R-22L will be closed for pavement maintenance work on Thursday night, Jan. 21, and Friday night, Jan. 22, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Construction is weather permitting.

Runway 8R/26L (Reef Runway) will be closed for maintenance work on Thursday night, Jan. 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. Work may be rescheduled in the event of wet weather.

The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the conditions of the Honolulu International Airport runways.
