ATG NEWS RELEASE: Dental assistant sentenced for drug violations

HONOLULU – State circuit judge Dexter D. Del Rosario sentenced Nicole “Momi” Dudoit to 150 hours of community service for prohibited acts related to controlled substances charges related to a 2013 incident at Island Dentistry for Children, Inc. in Kailua, Hawaii, Attorney General Doug Chin announced. Over the objections of the prosecution, the court granted Dudoit’s request to defer acceptance of her no contest plea and dismiss the charges if Dudoit successfully completes a four-year probationary period.
The charges arose from allegations that Dudoit, a 29-year old Kailua resident and dental assistant, gave Meperidine and Chloral-Hydrate to a two year old patient who was rendered unconscious for twelve hours. It was further alleged that the excessive duration of the patient’s unconsciousness caused a protracted loss of the function of the patient’s central nervous system.
After a joint investigation between the state narcotics enforcement division of the department of public safety and Medicaid fraud control unit of the department of the attorney general, Dudoit was charged in March with felony assault and two counts of prohibited acts related to controlled substances. The court dismissed the assault charge against Dudoit based upon a finding that there was insufficient probable cause to prove serious bodily injury occurred. Dudoit entered no contest pleas to the controlled substances charges in July. There was no plea bargain in this case.
