Posted on Apr 24, 2017 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU – Attorney General Doug Chin announced that felony information charges were filed today against Michael Jay. He is charged with escape in the second degree, a class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

On November 21, 2016, Jay, an inmate at the Oahu Community Correctional Center’s (OCCC) Laumaka Work Furlough Center, left the center without permission.  He was apprehended by deputy sheriffs and the U.S. Marshalls on December 1, 2016.

Attorney General Chin said: “Abuse of work furlough privileges must not be tolerated.  My office will vigorously pursue felony escape charges where warranted.”

Jay is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.  A copy of the information and a photograph of Jay is attached.
