ATG NEWS RELEASE: Inmate indicted for assault of adult corrections officer at Womens Correctional Facility

HONOLULU – Attorney General Doug Chin announced that an Oahu grand jury yesterday indicted Melanie Vivas-Asagra for Assault in the Second Degree.

While serving a prison sentence for Robbery in the Second Degree and Firearm Possession offenses, Vivas-Asagra allegedly assaulted an adult corrections officer.

Assault in the Second Degree is a class C felony and carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and a $10,000.00 fine.

Vivas-Asagra is 26 years old female with three prior felony convictions. If convicted of the offense, she is subject to enhanced sentencing as a persistent and repeat offender. Her bail is set in the amount of $11,000.00. Vivas-Asagra is presumed innocent unless and until she is found guilty of the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
