DCCA NEWS RELEASE: DCCA hosts consumer fair to celebrate Month of the Military Consumer
Posted on Jun 23, 2016 in Latest Department NewsHONOLULU – To kick off the Month of the Military Consumer, the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) will host a consumer protection fair at Windward Mall center court next week on Wednesday, June 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to all members of the public.
The month of July has been designated the Month of the Military Consumer, a joint initiative between state, federal, and nonprofit agencies to empower active and retired service members, military families, veterans, and civilians in the community.
Representatives from government and nonprofit agencies will be on hand to answer questions. Resources will be available as the first line of defense against fraud and for the public to make better-informed decisions when managing their money. Also, the first 100 visitors to the DCCA Consumer Education Program table will receive a FREE RFID wallet to use in their battle against fraud.
“We are pleased to work with our military and community partners to help consumers learn to better protect themselves,” said DCCA Director Catherine Awakuni Colón. “Consumer education is a top priority for us, and we offer a wide variety of education materials that cover many areas from financial literacy to information on identity theft and scams.”
Additional information and resources for consumers may be found on the Military Consumer Protection website: military.consumer.gov.
