(HONOLULU) – Based on witness reports and a social media posting, the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement is investigating the possible illegal removal of rocks (pohaku) from Ka‘ena Point State Park yesterday afternoon.
A volunteer with the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife reported to a staff member that she saw people loading up a pick-up truck with rocks at one of the park’s popular beaches. The staff member reports that it appeared the people taking the rocks were trying to conceal them up with surf boards. When a DOCARE officer arrived the vehicle had left.
Based on the license plate provided by the volunteer and staff member, DOCARE is conducting further investigation. If officers find proof of a violation, the people involved could be cited and have their vehicle access permit to Ka‘ena Point State Park revoked.
