DLNR NEWS RELEASE: Iao Valley State Monument media tour and news conference
Posted on Oct 1, 2016 in Latest Department News
Public facilities at Iao Valley State Monument on Maui were severely damaged during a flash flood event nearly three weeks ago. The Monument, which falls under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of State Parks, has been closed since what is considered a 100-year flood. State Parks managers, consultants and contractors have been working to develop clean-up and restoration plans for Iao Valley. Concrete walkways, pedestrian bridges, and the parking lot were either damaged or destroyed when the Wailuku River escaped its banks and swept tons of debris downstream.
