DLNR NEWS RELEASE: Improvements to be made at Maunalua Bay boat launch ramp

Posted on Jul 7, 2016 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU —   The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) yesterday began construction of improvements at the Maunalua Bay boat launch ramp to expand the vessel washdown area and construct a roadway around it. Work is scheduled to continue this week and next week.

The changes are being implemented to facilitate easier use of the three existing wash down stations by boaters, and to divert vehicular traffic along the access road away from the wash down stations to create safer conditions for boaters washing their boats.

The access road which runs parallel to Kalanianaole Highway will be closed in the vicinity of the wash down stations for the duration of the project. The boat launch ramp and the rest of the parking lot remains open.  Motorists are advised to use the temporary road thorough the adjacent unpaved parking area.  The roadway and wash down stations are scheduled to be reopened on July 15, 2016.

Project contractor is Maui Kupono Builders, LLC.  The project cost is $121,804.
