DLNR NEWS RELEASE – PAVING PROJECTS SCHEDULED AT TWO O‘AHU STATE PARKS – Nu‘uanu Pali to be closed August 13-20

Posted on Aug 10, 2018 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU — Road and parking lot paving projects are scheduled at two O‘ahu state parks this month, as part of regular parks maintenance work. Starting next week, Monday August 13 through Monday August 20, Nu‘uanu Pali State Wayside will be closed, due to paving of the vehicle parking lot, followed by pavement curing and striping. Gates along the park access roads will be locked on both sides of the Pali highway, therefore there will be no vehicle access to the lookout. If the project is completed prior to August 20, the park will reopen earlier.

The following week, paving work at Keaiwa State Recreational Area will require closure of the park loop road and camping areas, from Monday August 20 through Monday August 28. The park will remain open. The popular ʻAiea Loop Trail within the park will remain open, but hikers should plan to walk up from the lower park area, as the trailhead parking lots will be inaccessible during this period. Park users are advised there will be considerably less parking available during the project. If work is completed prior to August 28, the park will reopen sooner. Parks officials apologize for the inconvenience as they complete these park improvements.
