DOH NEWS RELEASE: Hawaii Department of Health approves reopening of Genki Sushi restaurants on Oahu and Kauai

Posted on Sep 9, 2016 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU — The Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) has cleared Genki Sushi restaurants on Oahu and Kauai to reopen today after the establishments completed extensive sanitizing of their facilities, disposal of potentially affected items, and medical screening of employees for Hepatitis A. The restaurants have thoroughly completed health department requirements and are ready to reopen safely for food service operations.

“The management team of Genki Sushi restaurants on Oahu and Kauai has given us their full cooperation, and the department is confident that they are in compliance with all health regulations,” said Health Director Dr. Virginia Pressler. “Genki Sushi has been cleared by the Department of Health to reopen to the public.”

DOH ordered the closure of Genki Sushi restaurants on Oahu and Kauai on Aug. 16 after determining a link between frozen scallops served raw at the facilities and cases of Hepatitis A. The business immediately complied with the order and remained closed until it could meet all Health Department requirements and ensure the safety of its customers and employees.
