DOT News Release: Nightly closures scheduled on the H-1 Freeway at the Kapolei Interchange for the week of Jan. 19 and 26

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies Oahu motorists that the H-1 Freeway will be closed in the eastbound direction between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and the Wakea Street onramp on Tuesday night, Jan. 21, 2020, through Thursday morning, Jan. 23, 2020, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for the Kapolei Interchange, Phase 2 project.

As an alternate route, eastbound motorists will be directed to Kalaeloa Boulevard via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and may continue on Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, and Wakea Street to return to the eastbound H-1 Freeway. On Thursday night, Jan. 23, through Friday morning, Jan. 24, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., the eastbound Campbell Industrial Park Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) will be closed, for sign installations. Motorists will be detoured to Wakea Street via Exit 1B, and may continue onto Kamokila Boulevard, and Kapolei Parkway to return to Kalaeloa Boulevard. To view a map of the detour, please click here.

Closures scheduled for the week of Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 are listed below and will run concurrently throughout the week. When Closure Number 2 (between Exit 3 and Makakilo Drive) is picked up at 4 a.m., Closure Number 1 (between Exit 2 and Kalaeloa Boulevard) will still be in place until 5 a.m.

  1. The H-1 Freeway will be closed in the westbound direction between the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) and the Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass on Sunday night, Jan. 26, through Friday morning, Jan. 31, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for bridge work.

Westbound motorists will be detoured to Makakilo Drive via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) and may continue on Farrington Highway/Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway. To view a detour map, please click here.

  1. The H-1 Freeway will be closed in the westbound direction between the Kapolei/Ewa offramp (Exit 3) through the Makakilo Drive overpass, on Sunday night, Jan. 26, through Friday morning, Jan. 31, from 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., for signage work.

Westbound motorists will be detoured to Kualakai Parkway via the Kapolei/Ewa offramp (Exit 3) and may continue on Farrington Highway, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway. For a map of the detour route, please click here.

HDOT will post reminders of the roadwork schedule via our social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter and on our website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.

Electronic message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closures and detours. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the full closure and will not be allowed through the work zone.
