HILO – Natasha Catriz, a felon with multiple convictions, self-surrendered to police today in Hilo for tax, theft and computer fraud violations following a joint operation in Hawaii by Special Agents from the Department of Taxation and Hawaii County Police Officers.

Natasha Catriz was charged on August 7, 2018 in Circuit Court with violating one count of filing false and fraudulent tax returns, one count of attempted theft in the second degree, one count of attempted theft in the third degree, two counts of theft in the third degree, one count of computer fraud in the second degree, one count of computer fraud in the third degree, and one count of Habitual Property Crimes.

Catriz faces imprisonment of not more than three years, or probation and a fine of not more than $100,000 if convicted of filing false and fraudulent tax returns in violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) Section 231-36; and will be sentenced in accordance to Chapter 706 if convicted of Attempted Theft in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, in violation of HRS Section 708-831; Computer Fraud in the Second and Third Degree, a Class B and C felony, respectively, in violation of HRS Section 891.5 and 891.6; and Habitual Property Crime, a Class C felony, in violation of HRS Section 708-803. If convicted, Catriz faces up to ten years imprisonment for the Class B felony and five years imprisonment for the Class C felonies, or probation. Attempted Theft in the Third Degree and Theft in the Third Degree are misdemeanors.

Governor David Ige directed the Department of Taxation to increase its enforcement efforts and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies. This investigation was coordinated by the Department of Taxation’s Criminal Investigation Section, the Hawaii County Police Department and the Hawaii County Prosecutor’s Office.
