DOTAX PRESS RELEASE: Honolulu Police Lieutenant Pled Guilty to Tax Violations

HONOLULU – Eric Yiu, a lieutenant with the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) pled guilty today to three (3) counts of filing false and fraudulent tax returns for tax years 2013, 2014, and 2016.

Yiu was charged on October 8, 2018 in Circuit Court with violating six (6) counts of filing false and fraudulent tax returns for tax years 2011-2016.   The charges were the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Honolulu Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Hawaii Department of Attorney General, and the Department of Taxation.

Yiu faces imprisonment of not more than three years, or probation and a fine of not more than $100,000 per count for his violations of Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) Section 231-36.
