DOTAX PRESS RELEASE: Local Businessman Charged With Tax Violations

HONOLULU – On April 13, 2018, local businessman Carroll Ung and Carroll Ung Restaurant Group, Inc. were charged in District Court for their willful failure to file General Excise Tax returns for the tax years 2010 and 2011.  Both Ung, as an individual and Carroll Ung Restaurant Group, Inc. were charged with two counts each of violating Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 231-35.

 

Ung faces imprisonment of not more than one year, or probation and a fine of not more than $25,000 per count if convicted.  Carroll Ung Restaurant Group, Inc. faces a fine of not more than $100,000 per count if convicted. 

 

This investigation was coordinated by the Criminal Investigation Section, Department of Taxation and the Hawaii Department of Attorney General.
