ETS NEWS RELEASE: ‘TIP’ for college students: State internship offers large-scale project experience

Posted on Apr 27, 2016 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU — The Office of Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) is accepting applications for the State of Hawaii’s Transformation Internship Program (TIP) summer session, which will run from June 20 to Aug. 8, 2016. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 13.

“TIP offers undergraduate and graduate students a unique opportunity to work on large enterprise initiatives on a scale few entities other than state government can provide,” said state Chief Information Officer Todd Nacapuy. “Students are assigned to modernization initiatives — many statewide in scope — and serve as members of our project teams. It’s a way to transfer classroom-acquired knowledge to valuable, real-world experience.”

This summer session will also offer an opportunity for student interns to help in planning a state hackathon. The hackathon (or code challenge) will invite the community to assist in developing modern tools and applications to provide enhanced government services.

Launched in 2013, the award-winning state internship program provides the framework to earn academic credit while collaborating with state personnel to advance transformation initiatives, including organizational change management, business process re-engineering and/or information technology (IT) systems and solutions. Through TIP, students receive meaningful work assignments by applying information technology classroom concepts to project assignments and are exposed to public service careers. Many participants also develop a network of professional contacts for the future.

To apply, visit https://tip.hawaii.gov  or go to ETS’ website at https://ets.hawaii.gov and navigate to the “IT Positions in Recruitment” page. Qualified TIP applicants must be currently enrolled as a graduate student or undergraduate student with junior or senior standing with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher. See application for additional qualifications.
