HDOT has coordinated with Department of Education (DOE) to provide access to school buses by providing contractor passes for the middle school and high school buses. In the mornings, the elementary school bus will travel into Wainiha on the 6:20 a.m. convoy and out of Wainiha on the 6:50 a.m. convoy; the middle and high school buses will head into Wainiha, traveling on their own, and will leave Wainiha for Hanalei at 6:20 a.m. In the afternoons, all DOE buses will travel in with the 2 p.m. convoy and back out using the contractor passes.
HDOT is currently anticipating emergency repairs and bridge upgrades to be completed and the road to open to all traffic without convoys in October. Weekly updates are posted on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/2018-kuhio-highway-emergency-repairs/
