Posted on Nov 29, 2017 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the H-1 Freeway will be closed in the eastbound direction between the Vineyard Boulevard offramp (Exit 20B) and the Ward Avenue overpass on Sunday night, Dec. 3, 2017 through Monday morning, Dec. 4, 2017 from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for underpass lighting replacement work.

Eastbound H-1 Freeway traffic will be detoured around the closure via the Vineyard Boulevard offramp (Exit 20B) and may reenter the freeway at the South Vineyard Boulevard onramp. (See detour map below.)

The Liliha Street onramp will be closed during the work. Motorists will be able to access the Punchbowl Street offramp from Honolulu-bound Pali Highway, however, the Pali Highway onramp to the H-1 Freeway will be closed.

HDOT advises motorists to plan ahead and use alternate routes like Ala Moana Boulevard/Nimitz Highway.

Electronic message boards have been posted to notify motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on site to assist with safety and traffic procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the work zone. Roadwork is weather permitting.
