HDOT NEWS RELEASE: H-3 freeway closures scheduled in July and August for routine tunnel maintenance

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the H-3 Freeway will be closed from Saturday night through Sunday morning over two weekends in July and August, for routine maintenance and systems repair at the Harano Tunnels. Lane closures are as follows.

  • H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Honolulu-bound direction between Halekou Interchange and Halawa Interchange on Saturday night, July 15, 2017 through Sunday morning, July 16, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Kaneohe-bound direction between the Halawa Interchange and the Halekou Interchange on Saturday night, August 12, 2017 through Sunday morning, August 13, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Electronic message boards will be displayed to inform motorists of the closure. Emergency vehicles and TheBus have been notified and will be allowed through the work zone.

Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time and use alternate routes such as the Likelike Highway or Pali Highway. Roadwork is weather permitting.
