HDOT News Release: H-3 Freeway Honolulu-bound will be closed nightly for lighting work in the Harano Tunnels beginning September 4

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Honolulu-bound direction between the Halekou Interchange and Halawa Interchange from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for maintenance and retrofit of the lighting in the Harano Tunnel. The overnight closures will begin 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, with the final overnight closure ending Friday morning, Sept. 7, 2018.

Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time and use alternate routes such as the Likelike Highway or Pali Highway. Electronic message boards have been installed to inform motorists of the closure. Emergency vehicles and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the work zone. Roadwork is weather permitting.
