HDOT NEWS RELEASE: H-3 FREEWAY OVERNIGHT CLOSURES SCHEDULED FOR LED LIGHTING WORK IN THE HARANO TUNNEL

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists that the H-3 Freeway will be closed in alternating directions, for LED lighting work in the Harano Tunnel. Lane closures are as follows:

Honolulu-bound direction

  • H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Honolulu-bound direction between the Kamehameha Highway Underpass and the Halawa Interchange on Monday night, Aug. 21, 2017, through Friday morning, Aug. 25, 2017, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Kaneohe-bound direction

  • H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Kaneohe-bound direction between the Halawa interchange and the Kamehameha Highway Underpass on Sunday night, Aug. 27, 2017, through Tuesday morning, Aug. 29, 2017, from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

HDOT advises motorists to plan ahead and use alternate routes such as Likelike Highway or Pali Highway.

Electronic message boards have been posted throughout the H-3 Freeway to notify motorists of the closures. Special Duty Police Officers will be on site to assist with safety and traffic procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through the work zone. Roadwork is weather permitting.
