HDOT News Release: Halawa Valley Street westbound lanes closed nightly for overhead signage work

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies the public that Halawa Valley Street will be closed in the westbound direction between Iwaiwa Street and the Ulune Extension on Monday night, May 13. 2019 through Friday morning, May 17, 2019, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., for overhead sign replacement work.

Motorists traveling westbound on Halawa Valley Street will be detoured to Iwaiwa Street, then left onto Hulumanu Street and left onto Kahuapaani Street. Motorists wanting to access the westbound H-1 Freeway may turn left from Kahuapaani Street onto the Ulune Extension, then turn right onto the H-1 Freeway westbound onramp. Signage work is also scheduled on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction. There will be two right lanes closed between the Palama Street offramp (Exit 20C) and the Houghtailing Street offramp (Exit 20B) on Monday night, May 13, 2019, through Friday morning, May 17, 2019, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly.

Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closure and special duty police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will be allowed through.

HDOT advises motorists to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time before getting on the road. Roadwork is weather permitting.
