HDOT News Release: HDOT crews repair section of Kamehameha Highway in Hauula

Posted on Apr 13, 2019 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) Highways Division is repairing a section of Kamehameha Highway near Hulahula Place in Hauula that has been damaged due to coastal erosion. Crews will stabilize the highway by resetting concrete blocks, filling the undermined pavement with a concrete mix, repaving the highway and replacing the guardrails. Crews will also utilize boulders to create a slope that matches the shoreline.

The northbound lane between Pokiwai Place and Hulahula Place across the Waimanana Stream Bridge will be closed during the construction. Traffic will be contraflowed in the southbound lane and directed by flaggers. The work hours are weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The work is anticipated to completed in the middle of next week, weather permitting.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time to pass through the area during the work hours. HDOT thanks the traveling public for its patience as we make the necessary repairs.
