HDOT NEWS RELEASE: HDOT supports National Tourism and Travel Week with Aloha Tower illumination
Posted on May 12, 2017 in Latest Department NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is illuminating iconic Aloha Tower in red to celebrate the 34th annual National Travel and Tourism Week (May 7-13), which unites communities across the country to celebrate what travel means to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being.
“We are proud to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week in Hawaii. These industries represent our state’s most significant economic engine, employing a diverse workforce that includes hospitality, transportation and retail workers, as well as supporting related sectors such as construction and locally owned small businesses,” said Gov. David Ige. “Tourism and travel touches families in every community throughout our state.”
“Travel and tourism have always been dependent on the availability of supportive infrastructure for its activities,” said Ford Fuchigami, Hawaii Department of Transportation Director and National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure (NACTTI) member. “I’ve always considered serving the communities of Hawaii a privilege. Opportunities like this help us shape the future of transportation solutions and support our residents to ensure that the future of travel and tourism continues to be a high priority on the federal level.”
NACTTI was established on June 1, 2016, pursuant to the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. On November 10, 2016, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced the appointment of 25 individuals to NACTTI consisting of public and private sector stakeholders involved in the transportation, travel, and tourism industries, to advise the U.S. Department of Transportation on current and emerging priorities, issues, projects, and funding needs related to the use of the intermodal transportation network of the U.S. to facilitate travel and tourism. Fuchigami was honored to be named to the initial 25-member committee.
