HDOT News Release: Holiday/Sunday convoy schedule for local access to Wainiha and Haena updated Nov. 21

Posted on Nov 21, 2018 in Latest Department News

Holiday schedule to be in effect for Thanksgiving holiday from Thursday to Sunday.

WAINIHA – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is adding two convoy times to the Sunday and holiday convoy schedule. A link to the revised schedule, which will be in effect for the Thanksgiving holiday from Thursday, Nov. 22 to Sunday, Nov. 25 is available here.

At the community’s request, the following convoy times have been added to the Sunday/Holiday schedule and will be honored for future Sunday/Holiday convoys:

Sundays & Holidays (IN EFFECT 11/22)

  • 6 AM Wainiha to Hanalei
  • 6:30 AM Hanalei to Wainiha

The other convoy times will remain unchanged.

The initial target for completion of work and reopening of Kuhio Highway between Waikoko and Wainiha was late 2018. After accounting for weather-related delays and consideration of environmental and community concerns, HDOT is now targeting early 2019 for reopening of the road.

Weekly updates on the Kuhio Highway Emergency Repairs is distributed via an online newsletter every Friday. Community members can sign up to receive updates here.
