HDOT News Release: Lane closures scheduled for the Kapolei Interchange project for the week of April 14 and April 21

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Oahu motorists of upcoming closures scheduled for the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project. Motorists should be aware that the H-1 Freeway will be closed in the eastbound direction on Sunday night, April 14, 2019, and in the westbound direction on Sunday night, April 21, 2019, for bridge construction work over the H-1 freeway. Lane closure details are below.

  • Sunday night, April 14 – Closures of the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) to the Wakea Street onramp, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Eastbound motorists will be directed to Kalaeloa Boulevard via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and may continue on Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, and Wakea Street to return to the eastbound H-1 Freeway. To view a detour map, please click here.

  • Sunday night, April 21 – Closures of the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) to the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1), from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Westbound motorists will be directed to Makakilo Drive via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) and may continue on Farrington Highway/Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway. To view a detour map, please click here.

 

Additional lane closures for the week of April 14 through April 19 include:

  • Single lane closure on Kalaeloa Boulevard in the northbound direction between Kapolei Parkway and Farrington Highway on Sunday night through Thursday morning, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for traffic signal installations.
  • Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the Farrington Highway overpass and the Makakilo Drive onramp on Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for bridge work.
  • Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 2) and the Farrington Highway offramp (Exit 1E) on Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for bridge work.
  • Closure of the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) from the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction on Monday night through Tuesday morning, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., for curb installations. Eastbound motorists will be directed to the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa offramp (Exit 1B) as an alternate route. Please click here to view a map of the detour.
  • Left turn lane will be permanently closed on the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) to Kalaeloa Boulevard beginning Tuesday. Motorists may take the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and continue on Kapolei Parkway/Kamokila Boulevard, to Wakea Street and to Farrington Highway. Electronic message boards will be posted to notify motorists of the closures and detour. Special Duty Police Officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures. Emergency vehicles, first responders, and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will not be allowed through the work zone.

Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations and to drive with caution on the detour routes. All roadwork is weather permitting.
