HDOT NEWS RELEASE: Lifting of temporary 25 ton weight restriction for Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Queen Streets

Posted on Apr 12, 2017 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announces that the temporary vehicle weight restriction for Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Queen Streets in both directions has been lifted as of today, April 12, 2017.

The temporary weight restriction was put in place on March 2, 2017, to allow HDOT to install additional shoring for the Ala Moana Boulevard Pensacola Relief Drain. The restriction limited vehicles exceeding 25 tons from crossing Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Queen Streets and reduced the speed limit in the area to 25 MPH.

A February 2017 inspection found that immediate repairs were necessary to the facility. HDOT contractors installed steel jacks to increase the load carrying ability of the concrete slab. HDOT will conduct special interim inspections of the temporary shoring until the concrete slab is replaced.

HDOT thanks the community and local transportation and trucking companies for their patience during the temporary weight restriction.
