HDOT News Release: Mekia Street access to Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo to be closed 24/7 beginning June 2

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises the public of the upcoming 24-hour continuous closure of the Mekia Street access to Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 2 through 3 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019. During this closure, there will be a lane shift to ensure travel is accessible in both directions on Kalanianaole Highway.

Motorists coming from Mekia Street will be able to access Kalanianaole Highway via Lukanela Street and Poalima Street. Pedestrians will not be allowed through the work area and are advised to use crosswalks at Poalima Street or Humuniki Street.

The closure of this intersection and crosswalk is for the Kalanianaole Highway Improvements – Olomana Golf Course to vicinity of Poalima Street project. The 24/7 closure will allow the contractor to complete the work on Kalanianaole Highway at Mekia Street quickly and safely.

Nearby businesses such as Shima’s Supermarket and L&L Drive-Inn have been informed of the closure. The Kalanianaole Highway Improvements – Olomana Golf Course to vicinity of Poalima Street project is expected to be substantially complete in June 2019.
