HDOT NEWS RELEASE: New traffic pattern at Waikoloa intersection with Queen Kaahumanu Highway begins Monday, September 26

Posted on Sep 23, 2016 in Latest Department News

KONA — The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announces the opening of the intersection of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Waikoloa Road to traffic in all directions beginning Monday, Sept. 26, 2016.

The intersection at Mile Post 75 on Route 19 was previously a three-way intersection. HDOT Highways Division, Hawaii District added an access road to the Waikoloa Beach Resort area, which allows drivers heading towards Kona on Queen Kaahumanu Highway to turn onto Waikoloa Beach Drive.

Motorists are asked to use caution when driving in the area, especially if they were used to the previous intersection configuration. Motorists coming down Waikoloa Road making the left turn onto Queen Kaahumanu Highway should be aware of the possibility of oncoming traffic from the new access road.

HDOT thanks motorists for their patience as this new four-way intersection goes into operation.
