HDOT NEWS RELEASE: Runway 35/17 to close at Lihue Airport for maintenance
Posted on Feb 17, 2017 in Latest Department News
LIHUE – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Kauai residents that
Runway 35/17, the main arrival runway for Lihue Airport, will be closed for maintenance in shifts from Tuesday, February 21 to Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Contractors will be performing necessary runway maintenance work such as removing rubber and refreshing paint.
During this period, aircraft arriving at Lihue Airport will be directed to use Runway 3/21 between the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday from February 27.
HDOT advises that use of the alternate runway may result in an increase in noise over parts of Lihue and Nawiliwili Harbor during the morning closures. Nighttime closures of Runway 35/17 are not expected to significantly increase noise levels, but nearby residents may hear occasional approaches to Runway 3/21.
HDOT thanks the community for their cooperation as we work to maintain our facilities at Lihue Airport.
