HDOT NEWS RELEASE: Temporary 25 ton weight restriction for Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Queen Streets

Posted on Mar 2, 2017 in Latest Department News

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announces a temporary vehicle weight restriction for Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Queen Streets in both directions.

The temporary weight restriction limits vehicles exceeding 25 tons from crossing Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi and Queen Streets. The speed limit in the area has also been reduced to 25 MPH.

The weight restriction and reduced speed limit are necessary as HDOT installs additional shoring for the Ala Moana Boulevard Pensacola Relief Sewer. A February 2017 inspection found that immediate repairs were necessary to the facility.

HDOT will lift the temporary restrictions upon completion of the shoring work, which is anticipated to be done by the end of March. Electronic message boards have been placed at the work site and city agencies and other stakeholders have been informed of the 25-ton limit.

A single lane closure on Ala Moana Boulevard in the east bound direction may be necessary for the repair work. HDOT will alert the public of any related lane closures through the HDOT roadwork website at: https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/
