HDOT News Release: Weekend lane closures

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

1) HONOLULU (24-HOUR WORK)

24-hour shoulder closure on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Pali Highway overpass and the Middle Street underpass on Friday, May 17, through Friday, May 24, for guardrail and shoulder improvements.

 

2) HONOLULU (24-HOUR WORK)

24-hour shoulder closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction in the vicinity of the Liliha Street overpass on Friday, May 17, through Friday, May 24, for guardrail and shoulder improvements.

 

3) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Two right lanes and shoulder closed nightly on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Queen Emma Street overpass to the Palama Street offramp beginning Sunday night, May 19, through Thursday morning, May 17, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for guardrail and shoulder improvements. The School Street onramp to the H-1 Freeway westbound will be closed during this time. Motorists will be detoured via Palama Street and Vineyard Boulevard.

 

4) KAPOLEI (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the H-1 Freeway on Sunday night, May 19, through Wednesday morning, May 22, for the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project. Motorists will be detoured.

 

  • Sunday night through Monday morning – Closure in the westbound direction between the Makakilo Drive overpass and the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists will be detoured via Makakilo Drive, Farrington Highway/Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway onramp to return to the westbound H-1 Freeway.
  • Monday night through Tuesday morning – Closure in the eastbound direction between the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor offramp (Exit 1A) and Wakea Street onramp from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Motorists will be detoured via Kalaeloa Boulevard, Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, and the Wakea Street onramp.

5) MAKIKI VIADUCT (WEEKEND WORK)

Roving single lane closure across all lanes of the Makiki Viaduct of the H-1 Freeway on Saturday, May 18, between 5:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. for bridge maintenance. Only one lane will be closed at a time.

 

6) WAIAWA TO AIRPORT (WEEKEND WORK)

Roving shoulder closure on the H-1 Freeway in both directions on Saturday, May 18, between 2 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for maintenance of shoulder.

 

 

— H-201 MOANALUA FREEWAY —

                                                                                                                                                                                

1) AIEA (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Lane closure on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway in the eastbound direction in the vicinity of the Aiea Access Road overpass on Sunday night, May 19, through Monday morning, May 24, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for striping work. During this time the northbound and southbound Aiea Access Road ramps to the eastbound H-201 Moanalua Freeway will be closed. Motorists will be detoured to access the freeway via the Kahuapaani Street onramps.

 

2) MOANALUA (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Two lane closures on the H-201 Moanalua Freeway/Fort Shafter-King Street offramp in the eastbound direction between the Ahua Street overpass and the Funston Road overpass, nightly on Sunday, May 19, through Friday morning, May 24, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for median and utility work.

 

 

H-3 FREEWAY

1) KANEOHE (WEEKEND WORK)

Shoulder closure on the H-3 Freeway in both directions at the exit to Likelike Highway (Exit 9) on Saturday, May 18, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., to clear shoulder, clean signs, and trim trees.

 

 

— PALI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 61) —

 

1) NUUANU TO KANEOHE (WEEKEND/WEEKLY CLOSURE)
Closure of the Pali Highway (Route 61) in both directions between Waokanaka Street and Kamehameha Highway over a 24-hour period, for slope stabilization work. The Kailua-bound lanes will be temporarily open during the schedule below.

 

  • Honolulu-bound traffic will be contraflowed in the Kailua-bound lanes between Saint Stephen’s Diocesan Center and Nuuanu Pali Drive from 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
  • The Kailua-bound direction will be open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

2) NUUANU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Honolulu-bound direction between the Wylie Street overpass and Pauoa Road offramp on Sunday night, May 19, through Friday morning, May 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., for the Pali Highway Resurfacing project. One lane will be tentatively closed from 2:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. Detour signs to Wylie Street and Nuuanu Avenue will be posted.

3) NUUANU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Lane closure on the Pali Highway (Route 61) in the Kailua-bound direction between the Pauoa Road underpass and Wylie Street overpass on Sunday night, May 19, through Friday morning, May 24, from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., for the Pali Highway Resurfacing project. One lane will be tentatively closed from 2:30 a.m. to 5 a.m.

1) KALIHI (WEEKEND WORK)

Right lane closure on Likelike Highway in the Kaneohe-bound direction between Nalanieha Street and the Wilson Tunnel on Saturday, May 18, from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming.

 

 

— KALIHI STREET (ROUTE 63) —

 

1) KALIHI (WEEKEND/DAY/NIGHT WORK)

Lane closures on Kalihi Street in both directions between Beckley Street and Nimitz Highway for crosswalk construction and traffic signal installations. Two lanes will remain open at all times.

 

  • Lanes will be closed between Dillingham Boulevard and King Street on Sunday, May 19, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Lanes will be closed between Nimitz Highway and Beckley street on Monday night, May 20, through Friday morning, May 24, from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

 

 

— FORT WEAVER ROAD (ROUTE 76) —

 

1) EWA BEACH (WEEKEND WORK)

Roving work in the median of Fort Weaver Road (Route 76) in both directions on Saturday, May 18 between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. for electrical work.

 

 

— KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY (ROUTES 80/83/99) —

 

1) KANEOHE (WEEKEND WORK)

Roving shoulder closures in both directions on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) in the vicinity of the Pali Golf Course on Saturday, May 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for grass trimming and litter control.

 

2) PUPUKEA (WEEKEND WORK)
Roving right lane and shoulder lane closure on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) in both directions between Waimea Valley Road and Wallace Beach Park on Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., for maintenance work.

 

3) PUPUKEA (WEEKEND WORK)
Shoulder closure on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) in both directions at Waimea Bay on Saturday, May 18, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming.

 

 

— ALA MOANA BOULEVARD (ROUTE 92) —

 

1) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the right lane on Ala Moana Boulevard in the eastbound direction between Alapai Street and South Street on Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., for flow monitoring of City sewers.

 

2) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the right lane on Ala Moana Boulevard in the eastbound direction between Keawe Street and Coral Street on Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., for flow monitoring of City sewers.

 

 

— NIMITZ HIGHWAY (ROUTE 92) —

 

1) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the left lanes of Nimitz Highway (Route 92) in both directions between Libby Street and Kapalama Canal on Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., for sewer improvements.

 

2) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of the left lane of Nimitz Highway (Route 92) in the westbound direction between Alakawa Street and Pacific Street on Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., for flow monitoring of City sewers.

 

 

— NORTH NIMITZ HIGHWAY (ROUTE 92) —

 

1) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Closure of two left lanes of North Nimitz Highway (Route 92) in the northbound direction at Awa Street on Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18, from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m., for sewer rehabilitation.

 

 

— FARRINGTON HIGHWAY (ROUTES 93/930) —

 

 

1) WAIANAE (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Lane closures on Farrington Highway (Route 93) in both directions between Ala Hema Street and Leihoku Street on Sunday night, May 19, through Friday morning, May 24, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for repaving work as part of the Farrington Hwy Resurfacing, Phase II from Hakimo Road to Kili Drive project. Traffic will be contraflowed.

 

  • Two lanes will be closed in the eastbound direction on Sunday night and Monday night.
  • Two lanes will be closed in the westbound direction on Tuesday night through Friday morning.

 

 

— WAIALAE AVENUE (ROUTE 7801) —

 

1) KAIMUKI (WEEKEND WORK)

Roving right lane closure in both directions of Waialae Avenue between 21st Avenue and Kilauea Avenue on Saturday, May 18 between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. for ADA-compliant mat installations.

KAUAI LANE CLOSURES

FOR THE WEEKEND OF MAY 17 – MAY 19

— KAUMUALII HIGHWAY (ROUTE 50) —

1) HANAPEPE (24-HOUR CLOSURE)

The Hanapepe River Bridge on Kaumualii Highway (Route 50) between Puolo Road and Iona Road is closed. Traffic is shifted to the adjacent temporary bridge over a twenty-four-hour period, seven days a week. Speed limit is reduced to 25 mph.

 

— KUHIO HIGHWAY (ROUTES 56/560) —

1) HANALEI (24-HOUR CLOSURE)

24-hour closure of the Lihue-bound lane of Kuhio Highway (Route 560) at mile marker 1 (hill approaching Hanalei Bridge) for emergency slope stabilization. Access in both directions is on an alternating basis until further notice.

 

2) WAIPA TO WAINIHA (EMERGENCY WORK, LOCAL ACCESS BY CONVOY)

Limited local access to Kuhio Highway (Route 560) past Waipa Bridge is available for vehicles with county issued placards in both directions Monday through Saturday on the following schedule:

  • 5:30 a.m. – 8:20 a.m.
  • 12:45 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
  • 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. (Unless bridge night work is scheduled. The schedule for May is available here)

Sunday/Holiday access is between 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Unless there is a full weekend closure)
