HDOT: PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETING AND NOISE VARIANCE CONSULTATION SCHEDULED FOR INTERSTATE ROUTE H-1 SHOULDER WORK AND CONCRETE PAVEMENT REHABILITATION PROJECT
Posted on Feb 22, 2018 in Latest Department NewsHONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) will be holding a Public Informational Meeting to inform the public of construction work on the Interstate Route H-1 Shoulder Work and Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation project in the vicinity of the Waimalu Viaduct to Halawa and the project’s noise variance permit.
The project consists of repairing the segments of the H-1 Freeway that are damaged and sunken and widening a portion of the H-1 Freeway within the existing right of way to provide added room for incident response and an additional eastbound lane for traffic use, when approved. Repairing the damaged segments of the freeway will reduce maintenance costs and provide a smoother riding surface. Construction of a new eastbound travel lane and shoulder will support safe and efficient mobility through this corridor.
The project is anticipated to start in April 2018 and is expected to be completed in Winter 2020, weather permitting. More information can be found at the project website.
The meeting is scheduled at the following location and time:
Monday, March 5, 2018
6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Alvah A. Scott Elementary School Cafeteria
98-1230 Moanalua Road, Aiea
The meeting will also serve as a noise variance consultation to gather public comments regarding proposed night work. The allowance of night work will shorten the duration of the project, minimize disruptions to the public, and ensure the safety of motorists on the freeway.
The consultation meeting is accessible for individuals with disabilities. For more information or to request an auxiliary aid or service (e.g., sign language, interpreter, specific language interpreter, designated parking, and wheelchair accessibility), contact Mr. Jim Niermann at (808) 842-1133 or [email protected] by Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018.
The public is also invited to submit written comments regarding the project or noise variance permit. Comments may be mailed to the address below and post-marked no later than Friday, March 9, 2018.
